A veteran pop singer, songwriter, and producer, Nick Lowe has pretty much done it all in his 40 years in the music business. As the bassist and primary songwriter for Brinsley Schwarz, Lowe was one of the primary catalysts of the pub rock phenomenon in the early 1970s. As a pop pioneer in the 1970s, his memorable songs include "Cruel to be Kind" and "(What's So Funny About) Peace, Love and Understanding." Lowe helped to create the blueprint for the modern indie rock label, helming historic recordings for The Damned, Elvis Costello, and The Pretenders, not to mention his own releases of the time. In recent years, Lowe has recorded a string of more intimate, personal - and critically acclaimed - solo albums including The Impossible Bird (1994), Dig My Mood (1998) and The Convincer (2001).
Lowe's 2007 release At My Age, his first in six years, showcases his unique brand of soul-soaked country pop, exploring a nuanced musical palette colored with horns, strings, and country flourishes. Lowe wrote nine new songs for At My Age and excavated three gems originally recorded by Charlie Feathers, The Uniques and Farron Young. Arriving 30 years after Lowe made his debut as a solo artist, At My Age displays the sublime, linear connection between country, rhythm and blues and rock'n'roll.
Special guest Ron Sexsmith brings his melancholic pop-folk to counter Lowe's rootsy country soul. An award-winning songwriter, Sexsmith counts artsits like Sarah McLachlan, Diana Krall, Feist and Elvis Costello among those who have invited him to perform, covered his tunes or collaborated with him. Recent releases include Time Being (2006), Destination Unknown (2005) with Don Kerr, and Retriever (2004).
